LET'S TWIST A STORY

LET'S TWIST A STORY

This week we have a story for you- Roshan's story. Read this story and add a hundred words to take it further. A jury will select the best addition and it will win a prize.
So, let the kites of your imagination fly high and bring some twists and turns to tell us what Roshan does next. We are anxiously waiting to read your versions. You can submit your entries by commenting here or by sending an e-mail at aaobachpanseenchein@gmail.com before the sun sets on Thursday, 29th of August.

Please do mention your name and age with your submissions.

Here's Roshan's story for you...

        ADVERTISEMENT ENACTING COMPETITION

Roshan is keenly watching all the advertisements today because he has to participate in an advertisement enactment competition tomorrow.
He has been outstanding in Quiz, Essay writing, and Poem-Recitation. His brain never lets him down. However, enacting an advertisement for selling a product is a different ballgame for him. Here, his appearance would matter. Synchronization, content, and performance would be the key.
Unlike every other day, he isn't fighting with his sister for the TV remote. Neither does he urge her to switch to his favourite cartoon channel. And, even stranger is that he looks at the TV screen only when the ad break comes and scribbles in his notebook as he watches the advertisements. He reads the notes when the program resumes.
He looks nervous.Tomorrow is Saturday. He has to put on the white uniform with white canvas shoes. His uniform should not be shabby. He runs out of the room and returns with his rundown canvas shoes and the bottle of liquid polish.
One thick coat and his carefulness change the look of the shoes.
The morning dawns. He is shaky as if it is the biggest test of his life. His competitors in the class always say, 'You can beat everyone in academics but we will settle the account in dramatics and sports.' He knows that they are better in these fields but he wants to give them stiff competition.
The school auditorium is full of cheer and anticipation. The non-participants, sitting on the carpeted floor, are eagerly waiting for the participants to enact the same advertisements which they watch on TV with some innovation. They expect a great show from their talented peers. The stage is about four feet high. Eight participants, two from each house are sitting in the right corner. The sweat of nervousness has appeared on their red faces. The hall is beaming with life. Its lonely and hungry walls cherish the whispers, giggles and childish nimbleness. The announcer reaches the lectern. Her greeting words mingle with the elated utterances of the chaotically busy audience. She repeats louder. Silence and stillness follow.
"Every participant will pick up two chits. Every chit has the names of the products. He or she can choose one product and will have to enact an advertisement for it," she reads out the rules. The four judges are ready with their pencils and heedful eyes.
Roshan is the first to go up. He draws out the chits from the bowl with trembling hands. He unfolds them one by one and mumbles, "Shoes and Ketchup." He thinks for a while and hands over the 'Shoes' chit to the announcer. Her lips read the word to the mic for the audience to hear.
He nods to the announcer's signal to start the act.
Roshan parades forward from the back of the stage saying, "Bata is the best quality," he jumps, "My sports-shoes, school-shoes, and party-shoes." He runs back and repeats.
"There is a hole in your Bata shoe-sole," someone in the audience shouts and guffaws. More taunts and laughter follow. Rohan freezes in the middle of the wooden platform. His toe feels the cold polished surface as he walks away.................
( Story by Gaurav Sharma )

Now, it's your turn to add to this story. What does Roshan do next? How does he respond to this insult?

Come on, we are eager to know where you end this story.

  1. My name is ANSH GUPTA AND I AM 13 YEARS OLD NOW I AM GOING TO TWIST A STORY THAT IS GIVEN ABOVE ..........

FOR FEW MINUTES HE STOOD LIKE A STATUE WITH FEAR ,BUT HIS MIND KEEPS ON THINKING , AND IN THIS TIME SPAN WHEN THE AUDIENCE IS LAUGHING HE THOUGHT A NICE IDEA FOR HIS SHOES ADVERTISEMENT. HE FINALLY STOOD UP FEARLESSLY AND SAYS: "BATA THE MOST COMFORTABLE SHOES WHICH MAKE YOU UNSTOPPABLE AND YOU ALWAYS WANTS TO WALK FAR AND FAR AS ITS GRIP IS TO THICK AND WILL MAKE YOU COMFORT WHILE WALKING".BY SAYING THIS HIS HEARTS STARTS FAINTLY BEATING AND HE THINK NOW WHAT IS NOW THE AUDIENCE REACTION,THE AUDIENCE WHICH WAS LAUGHING STOOD UP AND GIVE A BIG CLAP AND APPRECIATE HIM.THE JUDGES GIVE HIM FULL POINTS FOR HIS FEARLESS PERFORMANCE,AND HIS EYE CONTACT AND BODY LANGUAGE. ROSHAN WAS VERY HAPPY BY LISTENING THE CLAP AND THE JUDGES REACTION. THE AUDIENCE FEELS SORRY TO ROSHAN FOR THEIR UNAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR. HE SAYS THANK TO THE AUDIENCE FOR LAUGHING AS HE UNDERSTOOD THAT THE PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE IS NOT SO GOOD AND BY LAUGHING HE THINKS BETTER.

According to me the twisted story would be like this.....

His feet start moving backwards with fear and all the laughter in the auditorium make him feel a looser and he started questioning his intelligence. But he decides not to hear them and stays silent for a second and closes his eyes. He opens his eyes with confidence and then comes running forward and starts laughing . There is complete silence in the room and only Rohan laughes loudly and suddenly stops and continues, oh yes there is a hole, but i did not know until you told me. This is the brilliance of bata and as soon as I leave from here i am going to buy new bata shoes because I know that if I use it regularly for my school, party and sports it will start wearing off after a long time!!! And till that time no worry coz bata always takes care!!! Thankyou!

    3. I am Srushti Dani from Pragati English Medium School Pune.I study in std VIII.I have tried to complete the story in this way-
Roshan's best friend Rohan comes to him and says "Come on Roshan you can do it.You promised me of bringing the trophy." Roshan looks at his friend and his words act as magic. He remembers his promise and gets up and goes to the stage. He successfully does his performance. Now he waits till other performances are done thinking that he may not be in the winner's list because of leaving in between.
At last when the results are declared,he gets the second position. He feels sad for not keeping his promise. He says "Sorry Rohan, I could not keep my promise". Rohan hugs him and says "Hey bro! You didn't lose hope and that is something more than the trophy.Lets go party" Both friends leave from there happily.

  2. I am Piyush Tiwari and i am 14 years old I am going to twist the story given above as well.
As he was walking towards to exit the stage he thought of the Bata advertisment he saw while he was convincing his sister to give the T.V remote to him . As he jumped off the stage he thought of a new idea of portraying his advertisment . He quickly jumped back on the stage and started on a brand new advertisment right from scratch. He started by saying 'Not a while back I wanted casual shoes for attending parties and events,so went to the market with my mother and she took me to a Bata store.I was like Bata?the ones who manufacture school shoes. I entered the the store with no joy and when I entered the store I was like if I was walking in the heaven of strong and stylish shoes. There were shoes for every need, every size and for every price. At the end of the day I was like.'Suprisingly Bata'.The people audience applaused him massively he got 10/10 from every judge except one from whom he got 9.5 for his narration. When the winners were announced his heart was beating out of his chest but he got the second prize .At the end of the day he got the biggest prize of knowing that one can accomplish anything if he has the guts and obsession for accomplishing it.

  5. Losing all his hope, confidence and was totally demoralised .The hall fell silent and he recovered his discouragement and replied with an influential accent “ That this the quality ,look after too much of wear and tear I walked and performing in front of you and didn’t fell . So, now you can judge that how fine we prepare the shoes “. After that performing his rest of his act now the judges scored him. Firstly, they comment that “your expression, performance, that answer to the irrelevant question & recovering of your lose confidence in some moments is the most liked by us. Your performance was like nothing complements a fast mind better than a slow tongue. And nothing aggravates a slow mind better than a fast tongue.” they ended their report & at last when overall results came he stood first. His happiness was not having any bounds & finally won a certificate of merit.

  6. Hi, I am srishti suman from flora Dale school and I am 14 years old
Roshan became tremble but one more time he put his all efforts and once again he made another tagline '' these are luxurious of a true mocassino and these are also fit for you'' after saying this tagline Roshan's time was up before going to back stage he looked at the judges he saw there was no expression on their face. He worked hard for it but still he was worried after the reaction from the audience. When every participants give their ideas it was time to announce top 3 participants, Roshan was numb at that time, fear is the mind killer Roshan was not able to think anything but when the announcer took his name as the winner of this competition he was on cloud nine. Roshan jumped for joy and then he went on stage took his award and asked judges that why they had chosen him after those audience laugh they told him that''We were amazed by your confidence first you said something stupid but then you correct your mistake on spot''. Roshan was amazed by the judges answer and thought that a leopard cannot change its spot even whatever happens in their life.

According to me,the twisted story would like be this...
For few seconds he stood like a statue, hisfeet start moving backwards with fear and all of sudden the laughter in the crowd made him to loose his confidence and to feel him a looser and he started questioning his intelligence. But he decides to leave the stage .Roshan's friend Rohan comes to him and says " cCome on rohan, you can win the tournament, dont loose your condidence. You promised us that you will win the tournament."He remembers his promise and started moving forward towards the stage and ignoring all the laughter that are present in the crowd. He successfully done his performance .He gave 100% for his performance.Next it was the time for result declaratation,he close his eyes and then result came and become the second position holder in the tournament. He starting crying and said to Rohan sadfully,"I cant kept my promise, sorry."but Rohan saids that"no problem dear" dont cry .It's not important for winning the tournament ,it is important to participate ,you loose your confidence then also you try your best.I appreciate your confidence.

  10. Hello my name is Piyush Tiwari and i am 14 years old .I am going to twist the story as well.
When all his hopes were lost like dusk over dawn an idea of continuing the story piched his brain. He jumped back on the ramp replying to that someone in the aundience'indeed it is I was bluffing about this shoe being a Bata thought you might be able to understand'.He jumps from the ramp and asks his friend Khalil to give him his shoes as they were in mint shape. He jumps back on the stage with his friend's shoes and says 'This is a Bata sleek, stylish, and reliable'the audience reconsidered about Roshan's advertisment and gave him a huge round of applause. When the winners were being announced his heart was beating out of his chest. He got 2nd position in the advertisement competition but he leared an even greater lesson that one can accomplish anything if one has the guts to accomplish one's dream.

  13. ... petrified...
Petrified is a response that anyone would expect to be in ...Especially with such torrent of fours and teething insult.
But Roshan is not cast out of normal mould.
    He remembers ,
He recalls that a man is known by his shoes,
So he quickly jumps , he jumps more than the fox , yes the quick brown fox that jumped over the lazy dog ,
    Roshan jumps,
    He shows
Yes, this shoe in left foot is from another local brand...
The one sturdy one, bata shoe in the right foot..
    As
    Here i say again, "I, ROSHAN,IS
    SAY WITH ALL MY MIGHT,
    BATA IS RIGHT"

HE WALKS OVER THE WOODEN STAGE TIPTOEING AND CONFIDENT,
The gofors have turned into a criscendo of applause,
Deafening applause and cheer from students and teachers...
He walks into the glory with a gleam.
